COP22, Starting Point for Translating Paris Deal into Action (MEP)

Dakhla – COP22, held last November in Marrakech, was the starting point to translate Paris deal into action and start the implementation of this economic paradigm shift, MEP Gilles Pargneaux said Friday in the southern city of Dakhla.

At the Marrakech COP, which was a “great environmental and diplomatic success”, many political advances were made, including the reaffirmation of the commitment of developed countries to mobilize at least $ 100 billion per year by 2020 to support developing countries in their adaptation projects to the effects of climate change, Pargneaux said at a panel on the results and impact of COP22.

Significant achievements of the Marrakech Conference on Climate also include the two-year advance of the adoption of the rules for the implementation of the Paris Agreement (2018 instead of 2020), the promise to pay more than $ 23 million to the Climate Technology Development Fund and the official launch of the African Agriculture Adaptation Initiative (AAA), he added.

Stressing the action of the European Parliament in the implementation of the Paris Agreement, Pargneaux noted that the African continent has so many resources to exploit and riches of renewable energy to use.
