Meknes to Host 9th National Agriculture Conference in April

Rabat – The 9th edition of the national agriculture conference will be held on April 17th in the city of Meknes, said Wednesday the ministry of Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries.

Water resources are a global food security issue and the sustainable use of water is one of the world’s major challenges of the 21st century, the ministry said in a statement, adding that 70 percent of fresh water in the world is used for the production of agricultural foodstuffs and, according to United Nations estimates, global demand for water in agriculture will increase by about 20% by 2050.

The conference, to be held under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, is meant to raise public awareness of the imperative of efficient and environmentally-friendly water management.

It will also take stock of the progress and achievements of the Plan Maroc Vert which, since its launch in 2008, has always set the rational use of water resources as one of its priorities, according to the ministry.
