France Supports Moroccan COP22 Presidency, French Foreign Ministry

Paris, 04/11/2016 (MAP), France supports the Moroccan presidency for the 22nd Conference of Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), slated on Nov. 7-18 in Marrakech, said on Friday spokesperson of the French foreign ministry Romain Nadal.

“Now is the time for implementation: this is the challenge of the Marrakech COP. France supports the Moroccan presidency. It will continue mobilizing all its diplomatic network and cooperation instruments to ensure the implementation of the Paris Agreement,” he said at a press briefing.

He added that the enforcement this Friday of the Paris Agreement on Climate is as major achievement in the fight against climate change.

Less than a year after the adoption of the agreement on Dec. 12, 2015 and ahead of the start of the COP22 in Marrakech, this enforcement confirms the will of the international community to rescue the plant of global warming, he added.

Up to this day, the Paris Agreement was ratified by 96 countries and the EU, which represents 69.21% of greenhouse gas emissions, he said, noting that France commends all countries which have ratified the said agreement, notably those that did it recently as south Africa, KSA, S Korea and Indonesia.

“We should keep mobilizing ourselves for a quick universal participation. France invites all remaining countries to ratify the agreement asap,” he concluded.
