Morocco Earmarks 2.3 Billion Dirhams to Promote Use of Solar Energy in Agriculture by 2021

Rabat – A budget of 2.3 billion dirhams was earmarked to the program of promoting the use of solar energy in agriculture by 2021, said, Tuesday in Rabat, minister of Energy, Mining, and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rebbah.

Initiated by the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests, and the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency, this major program provides for supporting solar pumping used in agriculture, in order to limit butane gas consumption and targets a cultivated area of 100.000 ha, added Rebbah during the oral question session at the House of Representatives.

Concerning the impact of renewable energy policy on citizens’ daily lives, Rebbah highlighted the setting up of an energy strategy aimed at diversifying energy sources, while giving priority to renewable energy which should, according to the objectives set, account for 42% of produced electricity by 2020 and 52% by 2030.
