Morocco is Ready to Support Fiji in Organizing COP23 (COP22 Presidency)

Marrakech, 18/11/2016 (MAP) – Morocco is ready to provide its full support, assistance and advice to the Fiji Islands for the organization of the COP23, said Friday in Marrakech President of the COP22, Salaheddine Mezouar.

In a statement to the press after a meeting with Fiji Prime Minister, Frank Bainimarama, as part the COP22, Mezouar congratulated Fiji on the organization of the next COP, noting that “this is the first time that a Pacific island state will organize this conference”.

“We are ready to support Fiji to ensure that COP23 meets expectations and carries on the action initiated by the COP of Marrakech towards the concrete implementation of the Paris Agreement,” noting that “island states are the first to be threatened by climate change.”

“We came to meet with the COP22 president to ask for his advice on how we could organize the COP23 in a successful way,” Bainimarama said.

“It is a great responsibility for a small island state like Fiji to organize an event of this magnitude,” he said, thanking the Moroccan presidency for its valuable support.
