Rabat, Bamako Commend Excellence of Bilateral Cooperation in Energy Sector

Bamako, 29/09/2017 (MAP) – Morocco and Mali commended the excellence of multifaceted cooperation ties between the two countries, notably in the sector of energy, at a meeting held on Friday in Bamako between minister of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rabbah, and his Malian peer, Malick Alhousseini.

During a working session between the two parties, several aspects of bilateral cooperation were discussed, said a memorandum issued after the meeting.

It added that the two officials hailed the excellent relations between the Republic of Mali and the Kingdom of Morocco, in general and particularly in the energy sector, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI and Malian president, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta.

The two sides agreed to speed up the finalization of the two specific protocols between the Moroccan and Malian governments on cooperation for the development and modernization of the Malian electricity sector and on technical cooperation in the fields of integrated water resource management and water development, with a view to the signing of these protocols in February 2018 in Morocco.

They also praised the existing cooperation between the Mali Renewable Energy Agency and the Institute for Research in Solar Energy and New Energy (IRESEN) and, on the other hand, between the Malian Agency for the Development of Domestic Energy and Rural Electrification in Mali and Morocco’s power utility (ONEE), and invite them to strengthen and develop this cooperation, noted the document.

The two ministers urged their respective departments to increase contacts and exchanges of experience for better cooperation and involvement of Morocco in the development of renewable energy in Mali, concluded the same source.
