HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa Chairs Board of Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection

Rabat – HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa chaired, on Thursday in Rabat, the board of directors of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection.

Before tackling the results of the previous year, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa seized the occasion to shed light on the intense activities by the Foundation, during its 15 years of existence, on the back of the unwavering support by its partners and the work conducted by its teams, said a statement by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection.

The board of directors approved the financial statements for the year 2015-2016.

The year 2016 was marked by HRH’s participation in the 22nd conference of the parties of the UN framework convention on climate change (UNFCCC), where she chaired the opening of two important thematic days: the Ocean Day and the Education for Sustainable Development Day.

Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa delivered the keynote address at the opening of the Oceans Action Day, in the presence of mainly His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, and Segolene Royal, Minister of Environment, Energy and the Sea in charge of International Climate Relations.

During the Education for Sustainable Development Day, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa received the first Global Monitoring Report in education (GEM – Planet Report 2016), which provides governments and decision-makers with valuable information to monitor and accelerate the progress of sustainable development goal number, using indicators and targets.

The year 2016 was also marked by the signing of two important agreements with UNESCO and FAO.

The Foundation’s successful results have enabled it to acquire the status of an institution recognized by international bodies such as UNESCO, ISESCO, UNEP, FAO and UNFCCC.

Her Royal Highness also chaired the signing ceremony of the Qualit’air agreement in Skhirat in Feb. 2016 between the Foundation, the CGEM and 21 of its affiliated companies.

The Foundation oversees currently nearly 20 programs which serve as an example in carrying out initiatives for awareness-raising and education on environmental protection.
