Official Meets in NY with German State Sec. for Environment

New York, 19/09/2017 (MAP) – State secretary for sustainable development Nezha El Ouafi held, on Monday in New York, a working session with her German counterpart in charge of environment Jochen Flasbarth, on the sidelines of the 72nd UNGA.

During this meeting, emphasis was laid on the special partnership between Morocco and Germany in the field of environment protection given that the Kingdom benefits from the German cooperation support in relation with the environment and climate change, in addition to sustainable economic development.

The Moroccan official recalled that the rural electrification project, launched by Morocco since the 90s, helped 90.5% of the Moroccan rural population to have electricity with the German support in solar electrification.

El Ouafi added that the Moroccan national strategy for sustainable development seeks a transition towards a green economy which offers green employment opportunities.

The German official reaffirmed the commitment of his country to move forward with Morocco to conduct concrete actions as part of the NDC Partnership initiative, run jointly by Morocco and Germany, within a bilateral framework in terms of renewable energy and adaptation for climate change, mainly in relation with agriculture and job creation.
