4C Morocco Reiterates Support for African Climate Commissions

Accra –  The Climate Change Competence Center of Morocco, 4C Morocco, a capacity-building platform, reiterated its support for the three African climate commissions, created on the sidelines of the COP 22 at the initiative of HM King Mohammed VI, 4C director Rajae Chafil said on Wednesday in Accra.

The Center is supporting climate change stakeholders not only in Morocco, but also in the three African climate commissions to address the challenges of climate change facing Africa, including the Sahel Commission and the Congo Basin and the Blue Fund Commission, chaired by the Congo, Chafil told MAP on the sidelines of the African Climate Week.

Highlighting Morocco’s commitment to conducting feasibility studies to finalize the Climate Investment Plan for the Sahel region, announced by HM King Mohammed VI on Feb. 25 in Niamey, Niger, Chafil noted that the 4C is supporting the Congo Basin Climate Commission in preparing a prefiguration study for the Blue Fund.

According to the official, the 4C has launched this study with the UNDP’s support, noting that African climate commissions can count on the Center’s support to build the capacity of member states to include climate change in development policies.

The 4C Morocco held a meeting with pan-African organization United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), on the Africa Climate Task Force to examine ways to territorialize the implementation of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
