Fall Crop Rotation Program Posts 60% Implementation Rate – Ministry

Rabat – The fall crop rotation program in market gardening for the 2020-2021 agricultural season has reached 62,700 hectares, that is a 60% completion rate of the program adopted by the department of agriculture (1005,000 hectares), announced the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.

The implementation rates of the main crops reached 88% for tomatoes, 62% for potatoes and 42% for onions, the ministry said in a statement.

The market gardening program will be completed in full before the end of December, it added.

Concerning fall field crops (cereals, seeds, legumes, fodder and sugar crops), the ministry announced that the implementation rate has reached 1,200,000 hectares, or 21% of the overall program adopted for all crops (5,733,000 hectares), due to delayed rainfall.

As for sugar crops, the implementation rate has reached 74%, the statement said.

With the arrival of the expected rains, the pace of fall field crops planting, especially cereals, will be accelerated and could reach 1 million hectares per week, making up for the delay registered since the beginning of the campaign, the ministry concluded.
