COP22: EU Signs MoU with Several Moroccan Institutions

Marrakech, 20/10/2016 (MAP) – The European Union (EU) signed, Wednesday in Marrakech, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE) and with the Employers’ Association (CGEM), to support the Moroccan non-state actors in their activities on the sidelines of the 22nd Conference of Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Signed on the sidelines of the Pre-COP (held on October 18-19), this MoU aims to support financially the Moroccan non-state actors.

This financial support is part of the EU’s program “Civil Society Organisations and Local Authorities” that aims to promote partnerships and synergies between the local players in fighting poverty and achieving sustainable development.

Several participants in the signing ceremony stressed the importance of the COP22, slated for November 7-18, as an essential step in the implementation of the Paris Agreement, adding that the EU’s support to the Moroccan civil society confirms its strategic role in the implementation of the said Agreement.
