Former French PM Calls in Rabat for Respecting Balances of Nature

Rabat, 17/10/2016 (MAP) – Former French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said, Monday in Rabat, that respecting the balances of nature is not an option but a vital necessity and the current challenge is to bring together the economic and environmental progress.

“Sustainable development is at the heart of our future and the respect for the balances of nature is not an option but a vital necessity,” said Fillon in a speech at the opening of the first edition of “Rabat Talks”.

He added that research and innovation are likely to change the production system so that it better meets sustainable development.

Morocco has developed a renewable energy strategy in order to cut CO2 emissions and meet 52% of its energy needs from renewables by 2030, said the French official.

He said that 2016 would be the hottest year on record, noting that for the scientific community, human activities are causing global warming.

The COP22, slated for November 7-18 in Marrakech, is set to become the COP of the implementation of international agreements and an opportunity to discuss the real challenges for Africa’s future development, he stressed.
