HM the King Gets EE Visionary Award for Exceptional Leadership

Washington, 08/05/2017 (MAP) – The prestigious Energy Efficiency Visionary Award was granted, on Monday in Washington, to HM King Mohammed VI for his exceptional and visionary leadership in terms of energy efficiency, during the Energy Efficiency Global Forum.

In a speech on this occasion, marked by the presence of Morocco’s ambassador to the USA Lalla Joumala Alaoui who received the award on behalf of the sovereign, Gil Quiniones, co-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Alliance to Save Energy (which initiated the Forum) underlined that Morocco, which hosted last year’s COP22, in Marrakech on Nov. 7-18, 2016, led by example in terms of renewable energy.

Thanks to the royal leadership, Morocco established a comprehensive plan for significantly improving energy efficiency to help meet the goals outlined under the Paris Agreement, he said.

Quiniones underlined the inception of the National Agency for the Development of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, spearheaded by HM the King and tasked with achieving an ambitious set of clean energy goals, including a goal of 25 percent to 30 percent energy savings through efficiency by 2030.

“For these achievements and their forward-thinking approach to efficiency, we are thrilled to present to HM King Mohammed VI the 2017 EE Visionary Award,” he said at a ceremony attended mainly by Said Mouline, director general of the National Agency for the Development of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
