Morocco Expresses Commitment to New Momentum for Achieving Sustainable Development

New York – Secretary of State for Sustainable Development Nezha El Ouafi stressed, Thursday at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Morocco’s strong commitment to the new momentum towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Speaking on behalf of Morocco at the General Debate of the 2018 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), El Ouafi said that the Kingdom remains convinced of the need to federate efforts at all levels, notably through the strengthening of international cooperation based on solidarity among peoples to achieve the 2030 Agenda and the 17 SDGs.

El Ouafi, who is leading the Moroccan delegation to the ministerial segment of this Forum, noted that Morocco, pursuant to the high orientations of HM King Mohammed VI, has adopted sustainable development as a social project and new development model, and now has all the assets to move forward to achieve the SDGs.

The minister also stressed the importance of territorial planning that takes full account of the expected adverse effects of climate change and the need to implement major international agendas, including Agenda 2030, in order to promote resilient and sustainable territories where people can prosper safely, in a climate of peace and cooperation benefiting all.
