Official Meets in NY with Climate Action and Energy Commissioner

New York (UN), 18/09/2017 (MAP) – State secretary for sustainable development Nezha El Ouafi met on Sunday with Climate Action and Energy Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete, on the sidelines of the UN Climate Week, slated in New York on Sept. 18-24.

During the meeting, El Ouafi discussed with the European top official the international climate agenda, the need to boost climate action for an effective implementation of the Paris Agreement and the role the EU can play to back this implementation, according to a statement by the state department for sustainable development.

The talks touched also the possibilities and pre-requisites needed so that Morocco could integrate the European Union Emissions Trading System, a main tool for the European Commission climate policy, said the same source.

The parties agreed to deepen discussions on the Moroccan access process to the European market of greenhouse emissions trading at a Moroccan-European technical workshop, it said.
