Philippines: Typhoon Tembin Kills Over 200 People
Manila (Philippines) – The death toll from a storm that unleashed landslides and floods across the southern Philippines has climbed to 240 with scores of others still missing, Civil defense officials said on Monday.
Tropical Storm Tembin struck Friday the country’s main southern island of Mindanao.It swept out into the South China Sea early Sunday, with weather forecasters warning it would hit southern Vietnam later Monday.
The Philippines is regularly battered by typhoons that form over the warm waters of the Pacific and barrel westwards into land.
In 2013, super typhoon Haiyan killed nearly 8,000 people and left 200,000 families homeless in the central of the country.
