Portugal, Morocco Ink MoU on Energy

Lisbon, 17/03/2017 (MAP) – Morocco and Portugal signed, on Friday in Lisbon, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering the two countries’ strategic partnership in the energy field.

The agreement was inked on the sidelines of the 3rd edition of the Green Business Week, in which Morocco is the guest of honour, by secretary general of the ministry of energy Abderrahim El Hafidi and Portugal’s secretary of state Jorge Seguro Sanches, in the presence of notably Morocco’s ambassador to Portugal Karima Benyaich.

It is aimed at providing the conditions for a broad cooperation in the energy field between the two parties to elaborate an action plan on energy partnership and setting up joint working groups by a committee in charge of coming up with roadmaps for its implementation.

Speaking on the occasion, El Hafidi lauded the good relations of cooperation which witnessed a remarkable dynamic over the past years, mainly in the area of energy.

Sanchez stressed that Portugal is determined to explore all opportunities offered by cooperation with Morocco as far as energy is concerned.

The Green Business Week (GBW), which opened on Wednesday, was marked by awarding Morocco the GBW internationalization prize.
