Post COP22 National Conference Kicks Off in Rabat

Rabat, 26/05/2017 (MAP) – The first Post COP22 National Conference was launched, on Friday in Rabat, under the theme “Action Climat Maroc post COP22”, in the presence of head of government Saâd Eddine El Othmani and several ministers and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Morocco and civil society.

In a speech at the opening of the meeting, El Othmani underlined that, by hosting the COP22, Morocco stood out at the international level in the fight against climate change, praising the crucial role of HM King Mohammed VI in this field as well as his insightful vision.

El Othmani also welcomed efforts made by all actors involved in the success of this global event, which took place on Nov. 7-18 November in Marrakech, as well as their contribution in the implementation of the nationwide sustainable development strategy 2016-2030.

El Othmani called on all national and international partners to strive and forge ahead with the next steps to achieve Morocco’s climate change goals which include reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 42% by 2030.

Organized by the State Secretariat for Sustainable Development, under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this Conference brings together around 450 people representing mainly the public and private sectors, civil society and international organizations, in addition to donors.
