Electricity System in Next Decade will be Based on Clean and Renewable Energy, Minister Says

Rabat – The electricity system in the next decade will be based on clean and renewable energies, minister of Energy, Mining and Environment, Aziz Rabbah, said Monday in Rabat.

The next decade will be the decade of sustainable development and renewable energy, said Rabbah at the House of Representatives (lower house), adding that Morocco has forged an exemplary experience in the area of renewable energies.

The door has been opened to new energies such as hydrogen, the implementation of the 2021-2030 roadmap for clean gas-based energies and the 2021-2030 bioenergy “Biomass” roadmap, he explained, noting that following the high instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, a roadmap is being drawn up on marine energies.

The minister said, in this regard, that his Department works in collaboration with the ministry of Industry, Trade, Green and Digital Economy and the ministry of Economy and Finance and Administration Reform to secure the use of energy in all strategic social and economic sectors, adding that an agreement has been concluded with the ministry of Industry on industrial zones, for the development of scientific research and the attractiveness of investments in these sectors.

Regarding the use of renewable energies in the sectors of agriculture and industry, the minister said that the demand for renewable energies in agriculture has exceeded expectations, noting that 10 % of farms use this kind of energy.

He added that the ministry had received several requests from industrial establishments to use renewable energies, stressing in this regard that an agreement had been signed with the ministry of Industry to generalize renewable energies in all industrial zones.
