Marrakech Proclamation Supported by All Parties (COP22 President)

Marrakech, 17/11/2016 (MAP) – The Marrakech Proclamation, issued on Thursday night in Marrakech, has been supported by all Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP22 President Salaheddine Mezouar said.

The COP22 high-level segment brought together more than 70 Heads of State and Government, which was an “inspiration factor for this Conference”, Mezouar said at a ceremony held to read out the Marrakech Proclamation.

“This is the Marrakech Action Proclamation for Climate, Sustainable Development,” COP22 President noted.

Adopted by Heads of State, Government and Delegations, this proclamation underlines that the Marrakech Conference “marks an important turning point in our commitment to bringing the international community together in order to meet one of the greatest challenges of our time”.

In this context, the participants unanimously called for more climate action, well before 2020, taking into account the specific needs and special circumstances of developing countries, least developed countries and those particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects of climate change.
