Mezouar Holds Talks in Bonn with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed

Bonn – President of the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Salaheddine Mezouar, held talks here on Saturday with Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed.

The meeting focused on the messages to convey in order to maintain the mobilization of the international community to achieve the objectives set out in Marrakech, Mezouar told MAP, adding that he stressed the importance of supporting action on the ground, including the means to integrate public policies and national commitments with the Sustainable Development Goals to be attained by 2030.

Capacity-building and fundraising were also discussed during this meeting, which was held on the sidelines of the Bonn Climate Change Conference, Mezouar said.

The Moroccan senior official also underlined the importance of education and awareness raising-campaigns besides the strong involvement of youth in the fight against global warming.

The Bonn Climate Change Conference opened on 8 May and will continue until 18 May. The focus of the talks will be the implementation of the provisions of the Paris Climate Change Agreement, approved in December 2015.
