Morocco, Russia Discuss Means to Boost Cooperation in Energy Sector
Rabat – Moroccan minister of Energy, Mining and Sustainable Development, Aziz Rabbah, held, on Thursday in Rabat, talks with Russian peer, Alexander Novak, on means to boost cooperation in the sector of energy.
During the meeting, which took place following the 6th session of the Moroccan-Russian Joint Commission for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, held in Moscow last July, the two parties examined the participation of Russian companies in Morocco’s gas projects and cooperation in the field of electric power, notably the installation of Russian power lines and the establishment of power stations in the Kingdom, as well as the construction, renovation and expansion of coal-fired power plants.
The two ministers also discussed the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation, signed by the two countries during HM King Mohammed VI’s visit to Russia, meant to strengthen cooperation in the field of energy, particularly in the sectors of liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), electricity, renewable energies and hydrocarbon exploration.
On this occasion, Rabbah stressed the importance of boosting cooperation between the two countries in the areas identified during the visit of HM the King to Russia, which is part of the Moroccan vision in the search for strategic partners.
For his part, Novak said the two sides also discussed preparations for the upcoming visit of the Russian Prime Minister to Morocco in October, as well as various possible partnerships between Rabat and Moscow.
