Morocco Takes Part in UN Ocean Conference in New York

Rabat – Upon instructions of HM King Mohammed VI, Morocco takes part in the high-level United Nations Conference to Support the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Ocean Conference), co-organized by the governments of Fiji and Sweden on June 05-09 at the UN headquarters in New York, said a statement by the ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests.

This key event, which is themed “Our oceans, our future: partnering for the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG)14,” features several plenary sessions and round-table talks on diverse issues related to the protection of oceans with the aim to create new partnerships concerning the SDG14 on conserving and sustainably using the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

The conference is also meant to assess the challenges and possibilities of the implementation of this SDG and support the sharing of national, regional and international experience.

The conference is being held in parallel with World Oceans Day (June 8). On this occasion, Morocco will hold a meeting on the theme “Blue Belt initiative as part of Africa in Action for a Sustainable Blue Economy.”
