Ouarzazate to Host International Forum on Sustainable Development in Oases on May 2-3

Rabat – The city of Ouarzazate will host on May 2-3 an international forum under the theme “The heritage economy, what contribution to the sustainable development of vulnerable regions in oases and mountainous areas? ».

The forum is meant to highlight the historical dimension and cultural richness of the oasis, desert and mountain areas that can be invested to diversify the economic income of people living in ecologically fragile areas, said the International Center for Strategic Studies and Research in the field of territorial governance and sustainable development in oases and mountainous areas.

The meeting will bring together over 100 Moroccan and foreign researchers specializing in the heritage economy, in addition to representatives from government sectors, the private sector, public institutions, civil society entities, elected representatives and parliamentarians, international organizations, the media and representatives of foreign embassies in Morocco.

The participants will discuss the strategic and necessary mechanisms for placing heritage at the center of development in areas suffering from vulnerability and lack of resources, notably oasis, desert and mountain areas in the Drâa-Tafilalet region.
