Over 36 Tons of Plastic Bags Seized in Q1 2017

Rabat – The Royal Gendarmerie dismantled, during the first quarter of 2017, several clandestine plastic bag manufacturing units and seized large quantities of this material that would be sent to local markets, said a source of the Interior ministry.

These operations, which are part of the fight against the manufacture and marketing of plastic bags, have led to the seizure of more than 36 tons of this material, 51 manufacturing machines, 11 vehicles, and the arrest of 12 people, the same source added.

Since the entry into force of Law No. 77-15 prohibiting the manufacture, import, export, marketing and use of plastic bags, on April 4, 2016, the Royal Gendarmerie seized more than 421 tons of bags, 70 manufacturing machines, 16 vehicles, and arrested 55 individuals, all presented to the competent authorities.
