Under Leadership of HM the King, Climate Agenda Gains New Momentum (UfM SG)

Madrid, 24/11/2016 (MAP) – “Under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, climate agenda has gained a new international momentum with an identity of action and inclusive approach,” said Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Fathallah Sijilmassi.

The 22nd session of the Conference to the Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22), organized in Marrakesh, was “a great success at all levels,” notably in terms of substance, results, organization and high-level presence, he said Wednesday in Madrid at an international seminar on climate change.

A strong political mobilization was expressed during the COP22 especially for Africa, Sijilmassi told MAP on the sidelines of the seminar, held under the theme “climate change agreements between Paris and Marrakesh, ratification and implementation.”

UfM Secretary General also praised the important concrete initiatives undertaken during the Marrakesh Conference to strengthen the Euro-Mediterranean climate agenda.

In this context, Sijilmassi described as “very encouraging” the numerous debates, agreements and initiatives initiated during the COP22, adding that even if challenges in this area remain important, the international community is mobilized today more than ever against this phenomenon of climate change.
