Creation of National Agency for Water, Forests Shows Radical Change in Management of Forest Estate (Official)

Rabat – The creation of the National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) shows a radical change in the management of the forest estate in Morocco, said the agency’s acting director general, Abderrahim Houmy.

“The creation of the Agency as part of the implementation of the + Forests of Morocco 2020-2030 + strategy, launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, represents a radical change in the management of the forest estate in Morocco”, Houmy told reporters, at the end of the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Agency, held Wednesday in Rabat under the presidency of the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

This new development is expected to turn the forest sector into a productive sector, with environmental, social and economic roles.

He added that “today’s meeting launches the agency, which will begin to carry out the missions assigned to it in the management of the forest estate and the fight against desertification”.

Mr. Houmy stressed that this meeting was an opportunity for participants to address several issues related to the agency’s working mechanisms, noting that the Board of Directors approved, in this regard, a set of texts and proposals.
