Lebanon: Morocco Participates in Arab Forum for Sustainable Development

Beirut – The Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, organized under the theme “Recovery and Resilience”, kicked off on Tuesday in Beirut with the participation of Morocco.

During this event, held at the headquarters of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), participants are expected to review the progress made in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) before the 2022 High Level Political Forum scheduled for July in New York.

The Moroccan delegation to this forum is composed of the Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives (lower house), Nadia Touhami, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih, the Ambassador of the Kingdom in Beirut, M’hamed Grine and the MP Mohamed Boudriga.

It also includes Hamza Soukah, executive at the Directorate of External Relations of the House of Representatives, Jamal Ait Moha, from the High Commission for Planning, Mohamed Moqtet, from the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Abdelouahab Balmadani, Director of Planning and Financial Means at the Ministry of Health and Anis Rihani, head of the Department of monitoring the implementation of the system of medical assistance at the Directorate of Planning.

Speaking on this occasion, Meziane Belfakih stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco considers the achievement of social protection as an essential element for human development, because it is important to achieve such development and build a society where social justice and space reign.

The Arab Forum for Sustainable Development is organized in partnership with the League of Arab States, as a key partner in supporting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in the Arab region.

It is the result of joint efforts at the level of the United Nations development system, in line with the UN Secretary-General’s call to strengthen synergy within the organization at the regional level.

The forum is the main regional mechanism for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Arab region.
