AfDB Ready to Support Morocco, African countries to Promote AAA Initiative During COP22 (AfDB Representative)

Marrakech, 29/09/2016 (MAP) – The African Development Bank (AfDB) is ready to support Morocco and African countries to promote the Adaptation of African Agriculture initiative (AAA) to climate change during the COP22, slated for November in Marrakech, said Thursday the AfDB resident representative in Morocco, Yacine Diama Fal.

“The AfDB is ready to support Morocco and African countries to promote the AAA initiative at the COP 22 and to facilitate dialogue with donors to mobilize the necessary funding for its implementation,” said Diama Fal who was speaking at the opening of the High level Summit on the Adaptation of African Agriculture initiative (AAA) to climate change, which is being held on September 29-30 in Marrakech.

As an African institution, the AfDB is ready to support this initiative dedicated to the African continent, she said, adding that this meeting is an opportunity for the bank to express its support for the “Triple A” initiative, in full coherence with its priorities and commitments to fight climate change.

Launched in April 2016 the initiative intends to act on two aspects, one related to negotiations to make the adaptation of African agriculture at the heart of the challenges of the COP and get a fair distribution of climate funds between adaptation and mitigation.

Concerning the second aspect, it is meant to find solutions to promote and encourage the implementation of concrete and innovative projects on soil, climate risks and agricultural water managements.
