Kenya: Over 280 People Killed in Floods

Nairobi – The death toll from floods that have been pounding Kenya has risen to 285, the government announced on Wednesday.

Speaking in a nationwide televised briefing, minister of Devolution and Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, Eugene Wamalwa, said that “as of midnight last night, the total number of lives lost has risen to 285, the number of people affected has risen to 810,655.”

Wamalwa stressed that crop loss has been witnessed across the country due to the disaster, which may lead to food insecurity, adding that the rains are subsiding but will still be experienced up to June.
