Nordic Countries Launch Anti-Plastic Pollution Program

Oslo, 02/05/2017 (MAP) – Environment Ministers of Nordic countries, who convened in Oslo on Tuesday, announced a new program to fight plastic pollution, aimed at producing, using and recycling this product according to a process that is harmless to health or the environment.

“A process change is needed globally to reduce the volume of plastic litter and micro-plastics in the sea.The “Nordic Plastics” program is part of our contribution to improving the overall impact of plastic on the environment, I hope that we will propose relevant measures, ” said Vidar Helgesen, Norwegian Minister of the Environment, who is chairing the Nordic Council of Environment Ministers in 2017.

According to the new vision outlined in the Nordic Plastics program, the said countries will be oriented towards a more sustainable development in the usage and recycling of plastic.

Designed as a strategic tool, this program builds on previous plastic initiatives, supports Nordic synergies, raises public awareness and promotes plastic knowledge in the region, with a particular focus on the challenges posed by sea waste and the role of plastic in circular economy.
