Burkina Faso Proud of Morocco’s Achievements to Give Rise to African COP (Minister)

Marrakech, 10/11/2016 (MAP) – Burkinabe Minister of Environment, Green Economy and Climate Change, Nestor Batio Bassiere, expressed on Wednesday his pride of Morocco’s achievements to ensure that COP22, held on 7-18 November in Marrakech, is an African COP.

“We are proud of Morocco’s achievements. Since COP21, president of the COP22 struggled to invite all countries, especially in Africa, to ratify the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, from which we will all benefit for its entry into force in the African territory, and this is what has just happened,” said Bassiere.

“We live the African COP. We had the chance to adopt the Paris Agreement last year. Today we are in Marrakech and we have the chance to see and discuss its implementation,” he told MAP on the sidelines of Burkina Faso day at the Francophone pavilion in COP22.

The Burkinabe Minister also expressed his admiration for the Moroccan experience in the field of environment as well as his gratitude for Morocco’s support to implement it in Burkina Faso.

“We were very impressed by the Moroccan experience in the field of the environment, especially in terms of renewable energy,” he said, adding that “we are in the process of establishing the government’s vision on solar energy to replace fossil fuels thanks to the contribution and support of Morocco.”
