France, Morocco, Monaco Launch International Conference on Ocean Next January (Segolene Royal)

Marrakech, 17/11/2016 (MAP) – France will launch with Morocco and Monaco an international conference on the ocean in January 2017 to reflect on ways to enhance and protect the Mediterranean, announced Thursday in Marrakech French Environment Minister, Segolene Royal.

“We are launching with Morocco and Monaco an international conference on the ocean at the beginning of next year”, an initiative that meets the expectations of the Mediterranean countries in this matter, said Royal at a press conference as part of her participation in the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP22).

To prepare for this high-level meeting, the three countries will bring together researchers from around the Mediterranean to look at the future of the Mediterranean, one of the most important areas of urban concentration on the planet and the most affected by climate disturbances.

Royal also praised the progress made on the issue of the ocean during the COP22.
