Ouarzazate Hosts 1st International Congress of Oases and Date Palm

Ouarzazate – The city of Ouarzazate will host on May 29 and 30 the first edition of the International Congress of Oases and Date Palm (CIO), a forum for reflection aimed at proposing integrated and sustainable management solutions for oasis areas.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the event will bring together researchers, national and international experts, decision-makers, government representatives, industry professionals and international organizations, the organizers announced in a statement on Friday.

Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, and its partners under the theme “Together for the sustainability and resilience of the oasis ecosystem”, the congress aims to exchange knowledge and experience, discuss the challenges and opportunities linked to the development of oasis areas, and propose innovative solutions to ensure the preservation and sustainable development of these ecosystems.

According to the organizers, this congress will be an opportunity to “take stock of the knowledge acquired in terms of oasis development and analyze the assets and constraints of the oasis system, as well as the mechanisms for supporting sustainable development”.

The meeting also aims to discuss the opportunities and potential for integrated agricultural development, focusing on the date palm sector and the associated challenges, and to facilitate the exchange of information and experience between participants in order to promote partnerships and scientific cooperation with a view to developing sustainable technical and economic management models for oasis systems.
