Sustainable Development in Africa Depends on Promoting Renewable Energy (Mezouar)

Casablanca, 04/11/2016 (MAP) – Sustainable development in Africa is dependent on the promotion of renewable energy, president of COP22 steering committee, Salaheddine Mezouar, said Friday in Casablanca.

Speaking at the opening session of the international conference “Climate Finance Day” (CFD), initiated by Casablanca Finance City (CFC) under the patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, Mezouar added that the achievement of sustainable development in Africa also requires the integration of the private sector in public policies for sustainable development and the fight against climate change.

In this regard, he called for the establishment of a legal framework capable of facilitating the financing of green projects of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially those related to renewable energy.

Mezouar noted that the CFD, which coincides with the entry into force of the historic agreement in Paris, is an opportunity to examine the conditions for the massification of green financing and the role of the private sector in the international climate agenda, particularly in Africa.
