COP22: High-Level Climate Champions Launch Marrakesh Partnership for Global Climate Action

Marrakesh, 17/11/2016 (MAP) – The Marrakesh Partnership for Global Climate Action, a new framework to follow up and prioritize action for climate, was launched, on Thursday in Marrakesh, by the two high level champions for climate and bearers of the agenda for action, Hakima El Haite and Laurence Tubiana.

This partnership seeks to step up climate action over 2017-2020 by bringing together state and non state actors committed to climate action within the same platform in order to share successes, lessons and best practices.

At the opening of this event, COP22 president Salaheddine Mezouar said that “we are witnessing a reinforced dialogue between state and non state actors. We should follow a virtuous path”.

UNSG Ban Ki-moon, for his part, lauded and applauded the commitment of the champions in favor of climate.

El Haite underlined that “we have found committed, cooperating and on the move partners. We want to congratulate and thank them.”

“We should create large coalitions. We will open partnership to those who accept the obligation of transparency,” Laurence Tubiana said.
