High-Level Segment of ‘One Ocean Summit’ Kicks Off in Brest with Morocco’s Participation

Brest (France) – The high-level segment of the first international summit on oceans “One Ocean Summit”, aiming to mobilise the international community to take tangible action towards preserving and supporting a healthy and sustainable ocean, opened Friday in Brest, in the northwest of France, with the participation of Morocco.

The Kingdom is represented at the event by the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, who leads a high-level delegation.

Akhannouch was welcomed on his arrival at the event by French President, Emmanuel Macron.

The Head of Government is taking part in this high-level segment, which is attended by Heads of State and Government, leaders of multilateral institutions, business leaders and civil society policymakers.

The “One Ocean Summit” is held in the context of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with the support of the United Nations.

The event seeks to raise the collective level of ambition of the international community on marine issues and to translate our shared responsibility to the ocean into tangible commitments.

Several important initiatives will be launched on this occasion in favour of marine ecosystem protection and sustainable fisheries, intended to fight pollution, in particular from plastics, respond to the impacts of climate change, as well as advocate for improved governance of the oceans.
