Morocco, Niger Keen to Strengthen Cooperation in Integrated Water Resources Management

Rabat – Morocco and Niger signed, Wednesday in Rabat, a memorandum of understanding on the integrated management of water resources and sanitation.

Inked by Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka and Nigerien Minister of Hydraulics and Sanitation, Amadou Mahaman, this agreement aims to coordinate and promote cooperation programs in order to strengthen and consolidate bilateral relations between the two parties in the fields of integrated management of water resources and sanitation.

According to the agreement, the parties shall cooperate on integrated and decentralized water resources management, mobilization of surface and groundwater resources, preservation of water quality and improvement of water governance.

The cooperation will also cover regulatory, institutional and legislative aspects related to water, the study, design and implementation of water works, management, maintenance and safety of water works, as well as the management of water-related climate risks.

Under this MoU, bilateral cooperation may consist of exchanges and visits of experts, exchange of information and documentation, as well as capacity building programs and training courses.
