Morocco Plants 1 Million Trees in One Day

Marrakech, 14/11/2016 (MAP) – Morocco has been able to attain the goal of the national initiative “Planting more than a million trees in one single day”.

Organized under the patronage of HM king Mohammed VI, this initiative was kicked off on Saturday in the commune of Jbilet (center) by Abdelâdim Lhafi, commissioner of COP22.

At 2.30 p.m. local time (GMT), more than 900 000 trees had already been planted and the operation hit the mark.

The area reserved for planting is spread over approximately 3.000 ha. The operation featured about 310,000 plants of local species adapted to climate change that concern the different natural forest ecosystems of Morocco.

All the regional and provincial structures of the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification (HCEFLCD) are mobilized to support and supervise the 36,752 volunteers in the 210 perimeters intended for planting.
