Russia Wants to Foster Fishery Cooperation with Morocco, Russian Official
Rabat, 04/05/2017 (MAP) – Russia wants to foster its cooperation with Morocco in the fishery field, said, on Thursday in Rabat, Russian vice-minister for agriculture and president of the federal agency for fishery Ilya Shestakov.
Morocco, thanks to its two seas, its 3,500 km coastline and 22 ports, boasts important potentialities in this field which can be taken advantage of, said Shestakov in a statement to the press following a meeting with minister of agriculture, fisheries, rural development, waters and forests Aziz Akhannouch.
Describing the Moroccan-Russian relations as solid, the Russian official recalled the agreements that were signed on March 15, 2016, under the chairmanship of HM King Mohammed VI and Russian president Vladimir Poutine to reinforce cooperation and beef up the volume of trade exchanges.
He also cited the cooperation agreement in the fishery field which lays provisions for increasing Russia’s parts in fish catches within the Moroccan exclusive economic zone from 100,000 to 140,000 tons yearly.
Akhannouch underlined that the fishery sector has a special status in the cooperation strategy between the two countries, noting that the Moroccan fish products are very coveted in Russia thanks to their good quality.
