Tetouan- A fire broke out Tuesday evening in a forested area under the commune of Beni Layeth in the province of Tetouan, said the local authorities of the province of Tetouan, indicating that interventions on the ground, by land and air are continuing to control the fire.

Intervention teams composed of the services of the Civil Protection, Water and Forestry, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces, local authorities, agents of the national promotion and volunteers from the region have been mobilized to control the fire, supported by technical and aerial means and equipment, it said.

Two water dropping operations have been carried out so far to extinguish the fire, it was added, noting that 46 families from three douars have been evacuated in a preventive manner to secure the inhabitants of villages near the forests burned.

According to a provisional assessment, 160 hectares of forest cover formed of oak, cork oak, pine and some types of secondary vegetation have been ravaged by fire, note the local authorities, adding that no human losses are to be deplored.

This fire is an extension of the one recorded at the forest “Bouhachem”, located in the town of Tazroute under the province of Larache.
