Bonn: COP 22 President Meets Several Negotiating Groups

Bonn – Climate negotiations continued Tuesday in Bonn during the May sessions of the Climate Change Conference with meetings, led by president of the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP22), Salaheddine Mezouar, with several negotiating groups to discuss and monitor progress towards achieving the purpose of the Paris Agreement.

The meetings aim to continue the collective impetus of climate action, launched at COP22 and adopted by the Parties in the Marrakech Declaration.

Mezouar met with representatives of the African Group, the Environmental Integrity Group (EIG), the Arab States Group, the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) and the Umbrella Group.

The meetings provided an opportunity to take stock of the achievements made since the Marrakech conference.

Topics such as the progress of the work program of the Paris Agreement (modalities and procedures) and the involvement of civil society to strengthen climate action were also discussed during these meetings.

The talks also focused on the expectations of the Moroccan Presidency from the different parties in Bonn, especially the support of the Marrakech Process and the Presidency of the next COP, which will take place in the Fiji Islands, he added.
