Canada Grants Morocco $ 1.4 million to Contribute to the Successful Convening of COP 22

Rabat 07/10/2016 (MAP) – Canada has granted Morocco $ 1.4 million in order to contribute to the successful convening of the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UNFCCC to be held in Marrakech on November 7-18, Canadian Embassy in Morocco said on Friday.

The funding also aims to “engage all stakeholders and to hear the voices of women and the poor,” the embassy added in a statement.

In this regard, a signing ceremony will be held Tuesday at the headquarters of the organizing committee of the COP22 in Rabat, in the presence of several prominent figures working in the field of environment.

Canada has officially joined the ranks of more than 60 countries around the world that have formally ratified the Paris climate change agreement.

More than 200 federal MPs voted in favour of the motion on Wednesday evening in the House of Commons, while 81 opposed it.

The non-binding accord aims to keep global warming below 2°C this century.
