Morocco Set Up Action Plan with Africa at Forefront of World Climate Change Agenda, AfDB

Benguerir, 06/10/2017 (MAP) – Morocco set up a robust and pertinent action program that put Africa at the forefront of the world’s agenda on climate change, said, on Friday in Benguerir, AfDB deputy director for north Africa Yacine D. Fal.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2nd international conference on adaptation to climate change, held under the theme “Adaptation measures for water and agriculture”, Fal voiced her gratitude and admiration for the extraordinary and inspiring leadership which Morocco has shown during its COP22 presidency.

Morocco’s hosting of several important events mirrors its real commitment to climate change and a successful implementation of the Paris Agreement, she said, highlighting the importance of this event given the vulnerability of the African continent to climate change.

“We should join hands and establish solid and viable partnerships to turn these challenges into opportunities, ensure a sustainable development and reduce poverty in our continent”, she added.

The AfDB supports African countries to have access to climate funding necessary to continue a climate-adapted development, she noted, underlining that such commitment is laid down in the AfDB 2013-2022 strategy on inclusive and green growth in Africa.
