Morocco, The Netherlands Willing to Reinforce Environmental Cooperation

Rabat, 20/05/2017 (MAP) – State secretary for sustainable development Nezha El Ouafi met, on Friday in Rabat, with the ambassador of the Netherlands to Morocco Dirkje Elizabeth Bonis on means to reinforce bilateral cooperation in the field of environment.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed to consolidate bilateral cooperation in the areas of waste management and sea and industrial pollution, and underlined the role of training and capacity-building in fighting pollution, according to a statement by the State Secretariat for Sustainable Development.

On this occasion, El Ouafi recalled the joint statement signed by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Cooperation Development of the Netherlands and the State Secretariat for Sustainable Development in February 2015, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of waste management and recycling, the same source said.

She also stressed that Morocco has developed a national strategy on sustainable development, which is among the priorities of the governmental program, stressing that it will be carried out through plans and programs, it added.

Bonis welcomed the “solid relations” between Morocco and the Netherlands, hailing the rigorous organization by the Kingdom of the 22nd UN Framework Conference on Climate Change (COP22).
