Poland to Host and Chair COP24 in 2018, UNFCCC

Tuczno (Poland), 01/06/2017 (MAP) – The 24th UN Conference of Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) will take place in Katowice, south-western Poland and will be chaired for the 4th time by the same country in 2018, the Polish government announced on Thursday.

Quoted by the UNFCCC website, Polish environment minister Jan Szysko officialized the choice of the city of Katowice, on the occasion of a visit to Poland by UNFCCC executive secretary Patricia Espinosa.

“I would like to thank the government of Poland for having accepted to host the COP24 as a member of eastern Europe and I am glad to work with Szysko and his team to ensure the success of the conference at all levels,” Espinosa said.

This is the second time that Minister Szyszko will assume the position of President of the COP, having served as the President of COP 5, the same source added.
