Earth Day: Official Calls for Collective Mobilization for Environmental Issues

Rabat – Secretary of State for Sustainable Development Nezha El Ouafi said that the International Earth Day, celebrated on April 22 every year, is an opportunity to highlight the importance of raising awareness and education for the mobilization on environmental issues.

Speaking at the open days organized for the benefit of students from schools in the capital, on the sidelines of this day, El Ouafi said that this initiative aims to develop and promote an environmental culture, especially among children and young people, through audiovisual mediums, ecological clubs, green spaces in schools, as well as building the skills of actors working in this field.

“Young people are environmental ambassadors given their active role in spreading environmental culture inside schools and within their families,” she said, noting that this category is also the cornerstone of all environmental awareness raising and education programs led by the competent department.

These days are also an opportunity to take a closer look at the different programs and actions conducted by the Ministry, through a rich and varied program including several presentations and workshops in cooperation with the Association of Life Sciences Teachers and the Forum of Young Geographers, she said.

Morocco is experiencing a great environmental dynamism which has been reinforced by the promulgation of the framework law on the National Charter for the Environment and Sustainable Development, which specifies the basic objectives of State action in the field of environment protection and sustainable development, she recalled.
