Morocco Becomes Observer Member at European Network of Prosecutors for Environment

Rabat – The Council of the European Network of Prosecutors for the Environment (ENPE) has approved the request to grant an observer member status to the Kingdom of Morocco.

According to a press release from the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, this new status shows the commitment of Morocco and the institution of the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the protection of the environment and the criminalization of offenses in environmental matters, in accordance with the royal will to support all initiatives related to environmental protection.

The accession of the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office to the ENPE takes place within the framework of the implementation of the Kingdom’s strategy at the international level and the consolidation of the central role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the protection of the security of the citizens, the source pointed out.

In September 2012, in Brussels, representatives from prosecuting bodies in seven European countries came together to establish the European Network of Prosecutors for the Environment (ENPE).

The network seeks to support the operative work of environmental prosecutors, promote the exchange of information and experience of the enforcement and prosecution of environmental crime between members.

It is also aimed at fostering knowledge of environmental law among prosecutors and promoting the development of environmental criminal law as an integral part of criminal law enforcement generally.
