Morocco’s Regional Leadership in Fight against Climate Change Hailed by Nigerien Official
Rabat – The Minister Director of the Office of the President of the Republic of Niger, Ouhoumoudou Mahamadou, welcomed on Wednesday the regional leadership of the Kingdom in the fight against climate change, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.
During a virtual signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding between the Climate Change Competence Center (4C Morocco) and the Sahel Climate Commission, Mahamadou also praised the excellent cooperation relations between Morocco and Niger.
Recalling the objectives of the memorandum, signed by Minister of Energy, Mining and the Environment Aziz Rabbah and Mahamadou, and the purpose of the preliminary study of the financing mechanism of the Climate Investment Plan, the Nigerien official stressed that this cooperation framework consolidates the operationalization process of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region.
For his part, Rabbah recalled that the signing of this memorandum is part of the implementation of the High Royal Guidelines, to support member countries of the Sahel Region in their efforts for climate action, in particular through the 4C Morocco.
In this regard, he reiterated the availability of the said Center to use its expertise to support the countries of the Sahel region in the fight against climate change, particularly through technical assistance and capacity building.
In addition, the Minister stressed that this memorandum is a tool to give concrete substance to the partnership between Morocco and the Sahel region through the establishment of a financing mechanism to implement the projects identified at the level of the Climate investment plan in this region, and support for the development of partnerships with donors.
