World Water Forum: Morocco, Niger Discuss Cooperation in Field of Water, Sanitation

Dakar – The Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, had, Thursday, a meeting with the Niger Minister of Water and Sanitation, Adamou Mahaman, on the sidelines of the 9th edition of the World Water Forum held in Senegal until March 26 under the theme “Water security for peace and development”.

Talks between the two sides focused on ways and means to promote cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Niger in the field of water and sanitation.

In a statement to the press following this meeting, held at the Morocco Pavilion of the World Forum, Adamou Mahaman noted that he exchanged with the Moroccan Minister on ways to strengthen cooperation and sharing of experiences and expertise with Morocco in this field, adding that the two countries “have a long tradition of friendship and cooperation, a friendship that we wanted to reaffirm” as part of South-South cooperation.

Niger’s minister also stressed that the Kingdom of Morocco “has a long experience” in the management of water resources, and access to water in rural areas as well as in the field of agriculture, underlying that his country wants to strengthen this cooperation and take advantage of the experience, expertise and the know-how of Moroccan technicians in this field.

In this regard, Mahaman has mentioned “the opportunities that Niger can offer” for the benefit of the Moroccan private sector in these areas of water and sanitation.

As part of his participation in the 9th World Water Forum, Nizar Baraka, who leads an important high-level Moroccan delegation including officials and experts, had bilateral meetings with several of his counterparts and officials of international organizations participating in this major global event.
